A Unique Approach

CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE

An Ancient Science

Herbal Formulas and Supplements are a major component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Herbal therapy, next to dietary therapy, is perhaps the most widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment modality. TCM relies on herbal therapies for the treatment of illness, the optimization of health, and prevention of disease.

There are more than 400 herbs that have been identified and are being used in this practice over millennia. Other than flowers, leaves, and roots, barks, fruits and peels, animal products are also a part of this practice of medicine. Chinese herbs are available in the form of teas, pills, external ointments and formulae.

CUPPING & GUA SHA

Natural Healing

Cupping is essentially a reverse deep tissue massage with lymphatic drainage effects by using a suction device to expand the tissue and create space for circulation and blood flow. It creates a controlled inflammatory response to specific areas that need special attention. Cupping can help with everything from muscle tension to cold/flu, migraines, twisted ankle etc. Anything related to the circulatory system, musculoskeletal system and immune system can be benefitted by the use of cupping therapy.

Gua sha is a healing technique of traditional East Asian medicine. Sometimes called ‘coining, spooning or scraping’, Gua sha is defined as instrument-assisted unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called ‘sha’ representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis.

Raising sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic in traditional East Asian medicine. Modern research shows the transitory therapeutic petechiae produce an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment accounting for the immediate relief that patients feel from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, nausea and vomiting etc, and why Gua sha is effective in acute and chronic internal organ disorders including liver inflammation in hepatitis.

Balance Your Chi

With my Acupuncture therapy, patients claim to feel relaxed and renewed after each session. I’m trained in a variety of techniques, so I tailor your session to work on your specific goals and needs. I love showing my patients how just a few treatments can make an enormous difference to their health.

Biomedical Acupuncture (BMA) promotes healing in soft tissue by relieving muscle tension and inflammation via mechanical and biochemical functions.

Mechanical: BMA needles create microscopic holes, allowing blood to flow and carry oxygen to tense muscles. Oxygen helps muscles relax, relieving pressure and pain. BMA stimulates healing by prompting the body to generate healthy tissue.

Biochemical: BMA triggers the release of endorphins and other natural biochemicals into the bloodstream. Biochemicals promote the body’s natural healing response locally and systemically to reduce pain and inflammation, decrease stress, enhance mood, and regulate hormone and immune systems.
